WILLOW RIVER, Minn.—The Moose Lake-Willow River Rebels continued where they left off from last year’s 2nd place finish at State. The Rebels scored 54 point in the first half and cruised to a 75-0 victory over Mesabi East on Thursday, September 2.
Jake Disterhaupt and Chris Gassert each ran for two of the Rebels’ nine rushing touchdowns and Nathan VanZee caught a 70-yard scoring pass and returned a punt 75 yards for another touchdown.

CROMWELL, Minn.—The Cromwell Cardinals had a rare defeat (27-26) at home to the Nevis Tigers in overtime on Friday, September 3. According to head coach Jeff Gronner, his team dominated the line of scrimmage, but Nevis countered with some big pass plays and returned a kick off for a touchdown. The overtime featured a 4th down pass from Jordan Suhonen to Tyler Sulkowski, but Cromwell didn’t convert on the extra-point run. Nevis also scored on a 4th down in overtime. Sean Howes hit Dylan Stenberg on a 4-yard pass to tie the game. Howes added the game-winning kick.
