The Barnum Bombers can three, 3-pointers in a 2nd half stretch and pulls away late to win a Polar League contest 65-52 over the Floodwood Polar Bears
Scoring inside: Floodwood junior Molli Durovec had a career best 22 points versus the Barnum Bombers on Tuesday, December 14. Molli scored with a variety of moves and added 11 rebounds.

BARNUM, Minn.—A close battle between two of the top Polar League teams took place in Barnum on Tuesday, December 14. A close contest with eight minutes remaining changed in a hurry after a 3-point barrage by the Barnum Bombers as they outlasted the Floodwood Polar Bears 65-52.
The key stretch in the game occurred at exactly the eight minute-mark. At the time, Floodwood had the ball; Barnum had the lead (44-42); and Floodwood was looking to take the lead. Unfortunately for the Polar Bears a turnover turned into a 3-point shot by Barnum reserve Caitlan Rodgers.
Another turnover and another three by Katie Myhre from the top of the key electrified the crowd and Barnum seized total control of the game. After a Floodwood missed shot on the other end, Claire Rodgers capped of the 9-0 run with a three from the corner.
“We had too many turnovers against this team,” said Floodwood head coach Dale Rauvola. “You can’t do this against this team. They turned them into points.”
Both teams traded baskets the rest of the way and another 3-pointer by Katie Myhre sealed the deal.
Jessica Newman led the Bombers with 22 points and was a team leader in assists. She was also a key stopper on defense.
“Coach told us the players we needed to shut down (Alissa Autio and Maija Rauvola) and it my mind that was what we had to do,” said Barnum senior Jessica Newman.
Jessica was assigned to guard Alissa Autio who had been averaging over 20 points per game. Alissa finished with 10 and had the difficult task of breaking press at the point.
“My defense wasn’t perfect,” noted Jessica who was still sweating 15 minutes after the game was over, “but I worked pretty hard.”
In addition to Jessica’s strong offensive performance, Claire Rodgers came up big with 15 points and Katie Myhre finished with 12.
Polar Bear junior Molli Durovec had the best game of her career. She poured in 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
“We wanted to go inside and I think next time around we will do more of that,” said Coach Rauvola. “If we post them low I think it is the equalizer. We did okay down there, but we missed several. The lid was on.”
